The Malthouse Project offers guided tours every Wednesday from 12noon to 4pm. You can also look round the building using the self led guide leaflet any day Monday to Saturday.
The Malthouse Project offers the visitor a chance to see the unique restoration of the building, which marries together the old and new. Oak beams, wooden floorboards and tiles are all original features that were carefully removed, cleaned up and then put back into the building to make it the award-winning building that it is today.
During your tour you will also get to see original artefacts that were discovered on site during the restoration period. Many of these artefacts are from the old maltings. They include: kiln tiles, barley cutters, shutter pegs and a grain ticket.
There are information boards displayed around the building, which tell the history of each room and the part each area played in the malting process.
St Matthew Housing is currently looking for voluntary tour guides for the project. If you would like to become a tour guide for The Malthouse Project we would be happy to hear from you. Click here for more information.
