“We are thrilled to have received such an impressive acknowledgement for our flagship centre.
“The project would not have been accomplished without the funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Bury St Edmunds Town Trust and other trusts and statutory sources, and the hard work and dedication from our contractors and architects who have all played an important part in creating a building to be proud of.”
Development
Work on the refurbishment and adjacent new build accommodation started in March 2006 and the building was opened to visitors, staff, residents and service users in April 2007.
The once derelict site, now gives the old malting a new lease of life. By marrying together the old and new, SMH have produced a historical landmark that future generations can experience and enjoy.
The restoration project received an award in May 2007 for the “high standard of craftsmanship” from the Suffolk Association of Architects and later received an 'Architectural Award' from The Bury St Edmunds Society in June 2007.
